Date: 2011-05-03 11:56 pm (UTC)That's where you come in.
The player character, called Captain Zelnick in the game's extras, is a one-of-a-kind guy. He's piloting a ship no one else could pilot. He's from a colony no one's heard of. And he's kind of a huge derp. But! His heart is in the right place, and as a human, he takes issue with all of this death and slavery and what-have-you. So! He sets out to try and organize a resistance to the Ur-Quan, talking to a dozen or more unique, thought-provoking, and often hilarious alien races on the way. There are lasers! Hot space babes! The music is fun! I highly recommended.
FAQ tend to be "do I need to play SCI to play SCII," and "why is this game so haaard." The former is simply "nope, that game was silly. It doesn't impact the story at all." The latter is "because it's a DOS game from 1991, and back then people hadn't figured out about the importance of an easy mode."
What made you decide to app Naruto?

Date: 2011-05-03 11:59 pm (UTC)So, fun trivia: Naruto, the character, is actually really similar to Karkat. He grew up all alone, and was absolutely desperate for attention, and had no way to express this being a dumb kid. Whereas Karkat expressed this via rage and hate towards everything, Naruto decided to become a gigantic asshole to everyone around. This was the only way he could really get anyone to acknowledge his existence! He just wanted people to look at him, and realize that hey, there's someone there. But no one ever did, so he sort of grew into a jackass kid.
Again, like Karkat, the fact that everyone hates him was more or less decided completely independent of him, right at birth! He had no say in the matter! So he was really super-bitter over it. Plus Naruto is kind of a gigantic fuck-up who can't do any ninjutsu right! But through sheer effort, and finally having someone acknowledge him, he becomes a ninja, and gets going. And finally, people have to acknowledge him! They can't just ignore him, because he's actually a really good ninja now!
Which is an interesting thing- He's not a smart ninja. And while he has all the power in the world, it doesn't actually matter- He has a special way of compressing training time, but still, he becomes a strong ninja not due to the fact that he's got unlimited power, but through sheer balls-out effort to learn new jutsu and become stronger.
And while I enjoyed the series, watching Naruto's development (when Kishimoto remembers the title character actually exists), I wasn't going to app him until the recent arc! But then he had to do this soul-searching thing where he had to face the embodiment of his dark side. You would expect, of course, that it would be about the fox! But instead, it was just Naruto himself, the manifestation of how bitter and angry he was at everyone- As a kid, they ignored him and hated him, but now that he was a super-powerful ninja who saved Konoha, everyone was kissing up to him. And deep down inside himself, he hated that! He was pissed! It didn't affect him, but that resentment was still there! And he could only get rid of it after seeing it from someone else's perspective, and he had to let it go to get strong enough to save everyone.
Even then, he accepted that being resentful about it wasn't wrong. But he was willing to let that go, forgiving people and saving them anyway, because that's just the kind of guy he is. His resentment went away, and he got a new super-mode out of it.
SO IN CONCLUSION Naruto beat his dark side by countering its punches with hugs, then learned how to turn into yellow fire as a result. That is basically what clinched the app. But the whole story arc of him as a character was just good to read :B

Date: 2011-05-04 12:04 am (UTC)oh god. Violence with Sasuke, be incredibly gay yet somehow not with Sasuke, do a post about HYPNOTOADS EVERYWHERE, have live, medium-sized animals force their way down his throat (it's canon), and possibly have him run around for a full day in Sexy Jutsu just because.
What's a character you would really love to play in Camp but could never app?

Date: 2011-05-04 12:07 am (UTC)I have a hard time with this question because answering it is pretty much daring myself to app the character anyway, but... probably the original
gangstaCaptain Kirk. Because while I think he'd be hilarious, I'd probably play him as a joke and mock Shatner when actually I think Captain Kirk as a character is a pretty cool dude. The reboot young Kirk we have here seems to have that covered, anyway. But God that would be amazing.
YOU, same question

Date: 2011-05-04 12:16 am (UTC)Old Spice Guyno that's been done. Honestly, I'm going to outmyself as a GIGANTIC NERD here and admit it would probably be Fflewddur Fflam from the Prydain Chronicles. I love those books so much, I just can't app from book canons ever, and I can't get that book's speech style down. Plus I can't even spell his goddamn name half the time. But god it would be so amazing.
I still have not actually seen Megamind! Pimp that too me too, since god knows I need entertainment lately.
