Date: 2011-05-03 06:46 pm (UTC)I mean, he's SUPER-ANGRY ALL THE TIME which is really fun to play! I get to scream and bitch about everything, and it's actually fun to do that, even for the things I like. Having a character who can ICly scream THIS IS STUPID at... everything ever makes me ridiculously happy.
That's what made me decide to app, anyway, but honestly, he is basically my soul animal. The only thing that caused even the slightest hesitation is that I don't actually know shit about romcoms.
On the same note, what about ZEX made you want to app him?

Date: 2011-05-03 11:56 pm (UTC)That's where you come in.
The player character, called Captain Zelnick in the game's extras, is a one-of-a-kind guy. He's piloting a ship no one else could pilot. He's from a colony no one's heard of. And he's kind of a huge derp. But! His heart is in the right place, and as a human, he takes issue with all of this death and slavery and what-have-you. So! He sets out to try and organize a resistance to the Ur-Quan, talking to a dozen or more unique, thought-provoking, and often hilarious alien races on the way. There are lasers! Hot space babes! The music is fun! I highly recommended.
FAQ tend to be "do I need to play SCI to play SCII," and "why is this game so haaard." The former is simply "nope, that game was silly. It doesn't impact the story at all." The latter is "because it's a DOS game from 1991, and back then people hadn't figured out about the importance of an easy mode."
What made you decide to app Naruto?
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 11:59 pm (UTC)So, fun trivia: Naruto, the character, is actually really similar to Karkat. He grew up all alone, and was absolutely desperate for attention, and had no way to express this being a dumb kid. Whereas Karkat expressed this via rage and hate towards everything, Naruto decided to become a gigantic asshole to everyone around. This was the only way he could really get anyone to acknowledge his existence! He just wanted people to look at him, and realize that hey, there's someone there. But no one ever did, so he sort of grew into a jackass kid.
Again, like Karkat, the fact that everyone hates him was more or less decided completely independent of him, right at birth! He had no say in the matter! So he was really super-bitter over it. Plus Naruto is kind of a gigantic fuck-up who can't do any ninjutsu right! But through sheer effort, and finally having someone acknowledge him, he becomes a ninja, and gets going. And finally, people have to acknowledge him! They can't just ignore him, because he's actually a really good ninja now!
Which is an interesting thing- He's not a smart ninja. And while he has all the power in the world, it doesn't actually matter- He has a special way of compressing training time, but still, he becomes a strong ninja not due to the fact that he's got unlimited power, but through sheer balls-out effort to learn new jutsu and become stronger.
And while I enjoyed the series, watching Naruto's development (when Kishimoto remembers the title character actually exists), I wasn't going to app him until the recent arc! But then he had to do this soul-searching thing where he had to face the embodiment of his dark side. You would expect, of course, that it would be about the fox! But instead, it was just Naruto himself, the manifestation of how bitter and angry he was at everyone- As a kid, they ignored him and hated him, but now that he was a super-powerful ninja who saved Konoha, everyone was kissing up to him. And deep down inside himself, he hated that! He was pissed! It didn't affect him, but that resentment was still there! And he could only get rid of it after seeing it from someone else's perspective, and he had to let it go to get strong enough to save everyone.
Even then, he accepted that being resentful about it wasn't wrong. But he was willing to let that go, forgiving people and saving them anyway, because that's just the kind of guy he is. His resentment went away, and he got a new super-mode out of it.
SO IN CONCLUSION Naruto beat his dark side by countering its punches with hugs, then learned how to turn into yellow fire as a result. That is basically what clinched the app. But the whole story arc of him as a character was just good to read :B

Date: 2011-05-04 12:04 am (UTC)oh god. Violence with Sasuke, be incredibly gay yet somehow not with Sasuke, do a post about HYPNOTOADS EVERYWHERE, have live, medium-sized animals force their way down his throat (it's canon), and possibly have him run around for a full day in Sexy Jutsu just because.
What's a character you would really love to play in Camp but could never app?

Date: 2011-05-04 12:07 am (UTC)I have a hard time with this question because answering it is pretty much daring myself to app the character anyway, but... probably the original
gangstaCaptain Kirk. Because while I think he'd be hilarious, I'd probably play him as a joke and mock Shatner when actually I think Captain Kirk as a character is a pretty cool dude. The reboot young Kirk we have here seems to have that covered, anyway. But God that would be amazing.

Date: 2011-05-04 12:16 am (UTC)Old Spice Guyno that's been done. Honestly, I'm going to outmyself as a GIGANTIC NERD here and admit it would probably be Fflewddur Fflam from the Prydain Chronicles. I love those books so much, I just can't app from book canons ever, and I can't get that book's speech style down. Plus I can't even spell his goddamn name half the time. But god it would be so amazing.
I still have not actually seen Megamind! Pimp that too me too, since god knows I need entertainment lately.

and karkat and sollux returning I guess!!!
also I will think of interesting questions later I just like hearing about meeeee
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 06:51 pm (UTC)Karkat thinks Jaime is a big fat dumb. He really has no thoughts other than that he is dumb and easily-bullied! And he guesses he's Terezi's moirail so there must be something more to him, or else that 'easily bullied' is what drew Terezi to him. (He has no idea how wrong he is.) Other than that, Karkat is really only vaguely aware of him as 'that guy that I yell at a lot'. Shits are just not given here. He's already pretty much forgotten about the armor thing.
Karkat has mixed feelings on Sollux's return. Most of them are happy! His bro is back (though with THE AMNESIAS, OH NO)! ... and he's from before. And Karkat ruined that. WHOOPS. And he doesn't remember Camp! ... Which, on one hand, is super-good because it means Sollux doesn't remember AU week and the bucket, or Karkat talking about his questionable pale feelings due to a truly gratuitous amount of blood loss. Super-relieved there! On the other... the fact that both Sollux and Terezi got THE AMNESIAS really worries him. It's his issues and WHAT HAPPENS IF EVERYONE FORGETS ME D8B

Date: 2011-05-03 10:03 am (UTC)by which i mean, karkat's take on troll romance/relationships in general, his own place in relationships, and his relationship with terezi (and by connection, dave)
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 06:57 pm (UTC)That's. Really, really fucked up right now. Karkat holds the concept of troll romance on a pedestal, basically, and refuses to even think about any other ways of doing things. Because he really, really wants to be a good troll!
On the other hand, now that Terezi has basically forced the threesome, he is. Really, really fucked up. He thought Sollux was his moirail (thanks to Terezi being Terezi), and then Sollux came back to camp and is having his own rom issues. He can't find any blackrom anywhere, and he thinks he isn't good enough for redrom, apparently. This is really, really crushing him! He's going to spend the next while just getting crankier and crankier.
He's even slightly mad at Terezi over all of this! Which is rare for all his screaming. With all their shit in the veil, and now this, he honestly thinks he just isn't good enough, and is thinking that she pities him too much to just break it off with him, but doesn't like him enough to have real redrom with him. So. He's fucked up.
... I'm curious about Terezi's take on troll romance, the threesome, and Karkat :|a
tl;dr: terezi is selfish
Date: 2011-05-03 07:22 pm (UTC)She's also (obviously) started to combine the pity that's required of matespritship with the concept of human love that she discovered from watching the human kids (primarily Dave) grow up. She doesn't fully understand how it works, but she thinks she does.
As far as the threesome goes, she really thinks this is the best solution. And it is for her, at least in the short term, because she gets both of the guys she is flushed as hell over. She gets to stop feeling bad thinking that she's hurting both of them (she's ignoring how this could possibly hurt either of them even worse), but most of all she gets to stop feeling hurt herself. Also it's kind of cool to her, and very "fuck how this is supposed to work i want to do it my way", which is basically how Terezi works in just about every aspect of her life (except with regards to legislacerating, and even that is sort of warped...) Ultimately, though, she's a selfish thirteen year old, who is scared as hell by a lot of shit in her life right now, and just wants all of the good feelings she can get and none of the bad.
When she inevitably finds out that Karkat thinks that the threesome means she doesn't care about him or doesn't care about him as much, she's going to be pissed. At him, and at herself. She doesn't think of him as second to Dave, nor does she put him above Dave in any aspect except that he was there first. That's why she couldn't choose — while her feelings for them both started differently (pity for Karkat, admiration for Dave, and a thorough enjoyment of pushing both of their buttons), her feelings for both of them are equally strong. If she didn't care as much about Karkat, she would just break it off, and she'd be sort of disappointed that for how long they've known each other, he doesn't realise that she does things solely because she wants to, and if she didn't want to be with him, she wouldn't, and because she is with him, it means she wants it that way.
...Did I cover everything? I think I covered everything.

no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 09:00 pm (UTC)WORTH'S CHILDHOOD is canonically pretty boring, actually! I don't have too much headcanon, but, lessee. His family was loaded. They moved from Australia to the states when he was like 7 or 8 or something. He met Lamont when they were teenagers and he was starting to ~rebel~ against his uptight rich parents. He cares a whole lot about his sister and has gotten into pretty nasty fights defending her honor or some shit. Surprisingly, he didn't get into too much trouble as a kid, only towards his later teens (roughly around the time he met Lamont) did he start doing things worse than getting into fights. He's known he liked pain since he was about 12 or 13, though he never really minded cuts and scrapes and bruises when he was younger than that.
What do you like most about Naruto (the series or the character)

As for the series, what I'm liking most is the fact that, while it's an incredibly violent series, about ninjas and magic and mass murderers and questionable morality, the running theme seems to be that violence doesn't solve anything, and only invites more violence. The 'chain of hatred' is basically the recurring Arc Words, where X kills Y, so Y's friends and family kill X, so X's friends and family kill Y's friends and family, so their friends/family want revenge, and so on, and so on. The entire world, being founded on ninjas who kill each other a lot, has this problem! And the story is about Naruto finding this out, understanding it, and seems to be setting up to Naruto ending this cycle. Which is really cool, since in shonen manga, the moral tends to be 'PUNCH YOUR PROBLEMS UNTIL THEY STOP BEING PROBLEMS'. Which I do love reading, but.
If you were going to app a Homestuck character other than Terezi, who would it be and why?
